Tottenham’s admirable gesture to own fans after embarrassing run-in: ‘We understand you’

Tottenham fell flat against Newcastle at the weekend.
Now the players act with a beautiful gesture after the big loss.
“We understand your frustration,” the team writes in an open letter.

This weekend’s summit between Tottenham and Newcastle had all the conditions to be a heated event. But few could have guessed that it would be such a one-sided story and monumental overrun as it actually turned out to be.

Tottenham sawed

1-0 already after two minutes played, 2-0 after six minutes, 3-0 after just nine minutes and then both 4-0 and 5-0 after only 21 minutes of the match, through double goals by Alexander Isak. But then the bleeding stopped and the margin of victory was “only” 6-1 to Newcastle after the mad cavalcade of goals.

Tottenham were indeed completely overrun and have been heavily criticized after the woeful performance on the pitch on Sunday. Above all, the supporters were mad after the players completely weighed down and allowed this relegation to happen and the saws have been hailing on social media.

Respectful gesture

Now Tottenham’s players choose to act to give something back to the fans who were in place in Newcastle. In an admirable gesture, the team chooses to pay back the supportive supporters.
“We, as a team, understand your frustration and your anger. It wasn’t good enough. We know words aren’t enough in situations like these, but trust us, a loss like this hurts. We appreciate your support, both home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse supporters for the cost of your match tickets at St. James Park”, they write in an open letter published on social media.

Tottenham is still fifth in the Premier League and already on Thursday another summit awaits at home against Manchester United. Then there is a golden opportunity for quick revenge and Spurs are now calling on the fans to gather strength in their public apology.
“We know this doesn’t change what happened on Sunday but we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday night when your support means everything to us again. Together – and only together – we can move forward,” the players write in their open letter, see it below.
