To help you better control your energy expenses the Government

To help you better control your energy expenses, the Government has put in place financial assistance if you wish to install a connected thermostat in your home. You would be wrong not to take advantage of it!

After a summer marked by heat waves and a very mild autumn, the cold finally set in in France, and rather twice than once! No less than forty departments went into “severe cold” vigilance at the beginning of January! Despite high energy prices, there is no other choice than to turn up the heating, which is not without consequences for our wallet.

The problem is that you sometimes heat “in a vacuum”: when you are away, in unoccupied rooms, and at temperatures that are too high… This is why a connected thermostat can be very useful. This tool, which is directly connected to the heating, adjusts itself according to the ambient temperature, the time of day or your settings, room by room. You can even control the device remotely via your smartphone, and therefore adjust the temperature in your home while outside. Your energy consumption is thus closer to your real needs. And you save money!

However, this type of equipment is not cheap, with the most advanced models selling between 600 and 1,500 euros. A price to which you must add the cost of installation. Also, to encourage French households to equip themselves with smart thermostats, the Ministry of Ecological Transition has launched the “Help for connected heating control room by room” system. This is financial assistance that you can benefit from if you have a thermostat or thermostatic head connected to your radiators installed between 1er December 2023 and December 31, 2024. An initiative which aims to combat overconsumption of electricity caused by heating homes. This is all the more necessary since, as provided Decree No. 2023-444 published in the Official Journal on June 7, 2023all households must be equipped with this type of “smart” device by 1er January 2027.

All people who do not already have a connected thermostat or who wish to replace an old regulation device rated C or less can benefit from the device. This assistance is aimed at both owners and tenants, regardless of their level of resources. The only requirements: that the construction of the accommodation has been completed more than two years ago, that the heating system is individual and that the installation is carried out by a professional who has signed the charter “Help for connected heating management room by room” – installing this type of equipment is not simple, it is sometimes necessary to connect a relay to the boiler, purge the water from the heating network, make electrical connections, etc. Note that it can be combined with MaPrimeRénov’ and the zero-rate eco-loan. The installed thermostat must absolutely be class A or B.

The amount of aid depends on the total size of the heated surface in your home – a data that you establish by adding the size of the different rooms in your home in which a heating system is located –, ranging from €260 for less 35 m2 up to €624 for more than 130 m2. Note that the price of an installation of this type varies depending on the material chosen and the number of radiators to be equipped, but it can quickly exceed €1,000. The assistance may be sent to you directly or deducted from the final invoice. Here is how much you are entitled to depending on the surface area of your accommodation:

Between 35 and 60 m2
