Three dead after stabbing in Norway

It was at 04.52 on the morning of New Year’s Day that the police received the alarm. About half an hour later, the police found three dead: a man and a woman in their 40s and a boy in his early teens. The suspected perpetrator is said to be one of the dead.

In addition to the three deceased, two children were in the home.

– We can confirm that they have a family relationship, says prosecutor Kristine Pedersen at a press conference.

One of the children had injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. The other child had no physical injuries and has been questioned by the police.

Kolbjørn Mathisen, chairman of the Sørfold municipality where the incident occurred, tells the newspaper that a crisis team has been set up but is otherwise tight-lipped about details.

The police have opened a preliminary investigation into murder.
