It is an impressive demonstration of engineering that gives us Koenigsegg with his electric motor Quark. It displays a record weight/power ratio thanks to an unprecedented technology called ” Raxial Flow “. The manufacturer announces 335 hp, a peak power of 250 kW and 600 Nm of torque. All for a total weight that does not exceed 30 kg through the use of a steel aerospace grade, carbon fiber and direct cooling.

To go into detail, the term “raxial” is a neologism born from the contraction between “radial” and “ axial “. The radial flux electric motor uses a rotor mobile tubular that rotates inside a fixed stator. In one electric motor with axial flux, the stator is sandwiched between two disc-shaped rotors. The difference between these two architectures lies in the circulation of the electromagnetic flux. In the case of the radial flux motor, this results in better power density while the axial flux motor offers greater torque.

The Quark engine in the Koenigsegg Gemera

Koenigsegg would have managed to reconcile the best of these two technologies with its Quark electric motor. It will be integrated into the Gemera hybrid supercar of 1,700 hp which carbide to superethanol E85. Koenigsegg coupled two Quark motors through a six-phase converter. A block called “Terrier” which develops a total of 670 hp.

Besides the Gemera and other upcoming models, Koenigsegg also intends to offer its electric motor Quark licensed to other vendors.
