Several parties in Utrecht politics see this form as a trick to prevent a referendum from being held in Utrecht. Marijn de Pagter (VVD) is one of them. His party is in principle against the introduction of paid parking throughout the municipality. “We believe that every neighborhood should be able to decide for itself whether there will be paid parking in their own neighborhood,” he says. Utrecht had had that system for years and it is called ‘a support base measurement’. If a neighborhood doesn’t want paid parking, it won’t happen. “That’s actually going very well, isn’t it.”
