This is how residents of northern Sweden have survived the cold for thousands of years

There is a stereotype that people living in the north are tough and macho. But according to Curt Persson, researcher and teacher at Luleå University of Technology, it is not these qualities that have enabled people to survive harsh winters for thousands of years.

– It’s about the ability to plan ahead. It was known that in this place I can extract energy for x number of years from the surrounding forest that exists. But I can’t cut everything down, he says.
