The United States plans to send weapons and ammunition seized from Iran to Ukraine – Finnish experts: “In addition to the rich in the roca”

The United States plans to send weapons and ammunition seized

The batch on its way to Iran contained, among other things, 1.1 million rounds of ammunition for Soviet-made assault rifles.

Ukraine is consuming weapons at an enormous rate. New solutions are still being sought for weapon aid.

The United States has sent an arms shipment to Ukraine, which includes the cargo of a ship carrying weapons seized in Yemen. The weapons shipment was on its way to Iran and was seized last December. Tells about it British broadcasting company BBC.

The United States announced that the arms shipment to Ukraine includes, for example, 1.1 million rounds of Soviet-made assault rifle ammunition.

Finnish experts use the same expression as if from one mouth.

– In addition to the rich in the roca, say in phone interviews and a military expert Marko Eklund that the former intelligence chief of the General Staff, Major General EVP and Member of Parliament of the Coalition Pekka Toveri.

According to the comrade, however, the amount delivered to Ukraine will not have long-lasting effects in terms of the war.

“Pystykorva” cartridges are familiar in Finland

Military expert Marko Eklund estimates that the lot is good stuff for Ukrainian soldiers. According to him, it is apparently the model 7.62x53R, i.e. an ancient Russian flanged rifle cartridge, which has also been used in the Soviet-made machine guns familiar to Finns.

– The Winter War vertical ears have the same cartridges, says Eklund. The gun’s nickname comes from the upright parts of the gun that protect the grain, the “ears”.

Pekka Toveri reminds that Ukraine has half a million soldiers in arms and the consumption corresponds to it. The fire dose of an individual ground forces soldier, i.e. the number of cartridges, is 600 cartridges.

– The fire rate of the T-72 tank for the PKT machine gun (7.62x53R) is 2,000 rounds. 1.1 million is the fuel ration of 550 wagons.

Different cartridges in NATO countries

The US seized cargo is therefore 1.1 million rounds of ammunition. For comparison, Finland’s first batch of arms aid to Ukraine in February 2022 included 2,500 assault rifles, 150,000 cartridges, 1,500 disposable cartridges and 70,000 disposable food packages.

– NATO countries use weapons of different calibers, so these cartridges are fundamentally unusable in Western armies, says Eklund.

The subject can be discussed until Friday, October 6, at 11 p.m.
