The UN ends the Mali operation the unstable country

The UN will end its operation in Mali with a quick schedule. For example, Germany is withdrawing its troops from Mali half a year earlier than planned already at the turn of the year.

The UN Security Council voted on Friday to end the peacekeeping operation in Mali.

The MINUSMA operation ends at the request of the Malian military leadership.

Many countries, such as Germany, repatriate their personnel from Mali in an accelerated schedule. Germany has 1,000 soldiers in Mali.

Mali Wagner’s playing field

The end of the Mali peacekeeping operation has received more international attention than usual, because the Wagner forces that attempted the Midsummer uprising in Russia operate in the northern and central parts of Mali. The private mercenary army has an estimated 1,000 soldiers in Mali.

The peacekeeping operation ends half a year earlier than planned by the turn of the year. At most there have been about 13,000 soldiers in Mali. The goal of the operation, which began in 2013, was to support local forces in the fight against extremist Islamist groups.
