In the mass start over 20 km, Frida Karlsson struck with a better position: the star was the best of all – and took the first victory of the season.
– It was about time, she says.
Right before the sprint back, Frida Karlsson made up her mind. Then she drove full speed towards the goal – and no one could catch the 24-year-old.
Katharina Henning, Germany, was 2.3 seconds behind and a further 1.5 behind Kerttu Niskanen crossed the finish line.
“Strong”
– It feels really good, says Karlsson to Viaplay.
– I feel strong the whole race. Sometimes we went very fast, sometimes very slowly, so I chose to focus on the finish. I felt strong there.
Women’s coach Andreas Domeij:
– She is very strong, it can be seen as clearly as possible. She decided down the sprint track and just drove. She is hard all the way, he says.
Frida Karlsson, second in Friday’s sprint where Sweden impressed and seized all the podium places, was not only satisfied with the performance in Germany.
She enjoyed the first victory of the season a little extra – and the first triumph since the overall victory of last season’s Tour de Ski.
– We counted Linn’s days (after the sprint victory) and then I started to think… It had been a long time since I took someone, and it was about time, says Karlsson.
Andersson eleven
Ebba Andersson, who broke the Tour de Ski due to a previous covid illness, was in the tight group for a long time but then finished eleventh.
A placement that she was still happy with.
– Large parts of the race I ride in a good way, then I miss the last thing that is required. It has to do with what I have behind me, the covid disease that forced me to break the tour, she tells Viaplay.
On Sunday, the competitions in Oberhof continue with relays, 4×7.5 km for both ladies and gents.
