The Tidö parties want to toughen the punishment for child marriage

The Tidö parties want to toughen the penalties for forced marriage, child marriage and polygamy.
That’s what they write on Aftonbladet debate.
“Children must in all circumstances be children, and adults must have the choice to freely choose their partner – or to have no partner,” they write, among other things.

It is in a joint discussion article in Aftonbladet that the government and the Sweden Democrats write that they want to toughen the punishment for forced marriage, child marriage and polygamy.

“No one in Sweden should have to adapt their life to cultural notions of honor. That girls and women, but also boys and men, have their lives and freedom limited by honor standards is something that we know occurs in Sweden. It is also something that we will never accept,” the parties write, among other things.

Will review foreign plural marriages in Sweden

An investigation will now be set up to sharpen the view of honor-related violence and oppression. The penalty scales for, for example, child marriage crimes, forced marriage and oppression of honor must be reviewed.

“The penalty scales must reflect the violation and the physical and psychological suffering that the crimes entail for the crime victim,” the debate article states.

The investigator will also look into whether foreign plural marriages should be recognized in Sweden and whether “the circle of people who can be held criminally responsible for child marriage should be expanded.”
