The teacher of maritime warfare considers long drag marks near

The Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia was damaged at the beginning of October. An anchor and long drag marks were found next to the damaged place of the pipe.

Naval education teacher, commander of the National Defense University Perttu Trontti considers it highly unlikely that the cargo ship pulling the anchor behind it would not have noticed what was happening.

Trontti, who visited the A-studio on Wednesday, said that he finds it very strange that the drag marks of the anchor are so long.

– Yes, the ship practically notices such a mass being pulled behind. It’s about an anchor weighing several thousand kilograms and an even heavier chain, Trontti explained.

According to Tront, a load of thousands of kilograms would significantly affect the ship’s maneuverability.

– In practice, it would turn the ship sideways at some point.

The Central Criminal Police said yesterday, Tuesday, that an anchor and long drag marks have been found next to the damaged place of the gas pipe. According to KRP, the investigation is currently focused on finding out the involvement of the Chinese ship Newnew Polar Bear.
