More modern tests and no names on the taxi license. These are two of the changes that apply to taxi drivers from Tuesday, the Swedish Transport Administration announces.

As of November 1, new regulations on taxi driver identification apply.

One part is about the test you have to take to be allowed to drive a taxi. It will consist of two sub-exams of 50 minutes each, instead of the three sub-exams of 40 minutes each that previously applied.

This is because the map reading test, which is deemed to have played its part, has been removed.

“Today, modern technology is available to help with navigation, so the partial tests have been updated with relevant questions based on that, but also based on new legislation,” says Jenny Bragg, investigator at the Swedish Transport Agency, to the authority’s website.

New procedural rules are also introduced when the test is to be written. Those taking the exam must put away personal belongings and turn off their mobile phones, to avoid cheating.

The driving test itself can now be done with an automatic car.

The physical driver’s license in the taxis is updated and the name of the driver is removed for security reasons. Instead, the individual driver code must be enlarged, so that it is still possible to identify the taxi driver in the event of a complaint.
