The Swedish Work Environment Authority is critical of the police after Löfving’s death

The Work Environment Agency points to several shortcomings within the Police Authority after the death of police chief Mats Löfving.
It is about both preventive work environment work and crisis support.
– We have inspected the police’s work environment work and can state that there are shortcomings, says unit manager Ulrika Scholander.

After the death of police chief Mats Löfving, the Swedish Police Agency reported the incident to the Swedish Work Environment Agency, as it could not be ruled out that the death had been related to work.

Now the Work Environment Agency has sent a notice to the Police Authority, pointing to several work environment deficiencies.

– We have inspected the police’s work environment work and can ascertain that there are shortcomings, both when it comes to preventing the risks of abusive discrimination and providing crisis support, says unit manager Ulrika Scholander in a comment to TV4 Nyheterna.

Löfving’s son sharply criticizes the police’s handling: “Completely incomprehensible”

Work Environment Agency: “Serious”

– It is serious, it is just as important to counteract social risks in the work environment as physical risks. Social risks can lead to abusive discrimination and mental illness.

The police are now given the opportunity to comment on the deficiencies and the Work Environment Agency’s requirements before the authority goes ahead and makes a decision on the matter.

The investigation has previously shown that it is “out of the question that someone else” has caused Löfving’s death, writes TT.

Mats Löfving, former regional police chief in Stockholm and deputy national police chief, was found dead in his home on February 22. Earlier the same day, the police’s special investigator Runar Viksten had singled out Löfving at a press conference as bad in several decisions and recommended that he be fired.
