The Swedish Transport Administration on the big journey home day: Don’t forget to refuel the driver

During Wednesday morning, the Swedish Transport Administration testifies to a relatively calm situation in the traffic, which has not really started after the Christmas holiday.

– There are some risks of slipping, especially in northern Skåne and southern Småland, about which we receive reports. There have been a few ditches, but so far nothing serious, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

During the day, however, traffic is expected to start properly on several major roads.

– The major artery during Christmas and New Year is of course E4, but it is mainly from the mountain trips, on E14 and E16 that the traffic will be today.

For West Sweden, it is E45 and E6 that are most often relevant for the journey home.

Best advice before the trip

Something that will be common to all roads today, says Bengt Olsson, is to keep your distance, adjust your speed and be prepared for an accident to happen at any time.

– The substrate changes all the time. Just in the last few days it has gone from minus to plus and then back again, a mix that can be devastating. A bit of strong wind on top of that, and the road surface is groomed into a perfect skating rink.

He therefore urges everyone who is going out on the roads during the intervening days to take it easy in traffic.

– Now you have traveled to something that is positive and you may not be as eager to go back home. But, let the journey home also become part of the leave. You don’t just need to fuel the car, you also need to fuel the driver with good energy so that he makes good decisions in traffic.
