The Swede makes everyone astound – with the stroke that has been called “the smartest in the entire history of golf”

The best golfers tend to be the most creative.
This is a shining example of that.
When the Swede Sebastian Söderberg had a seemingly impossible shot in front of him, he just stunned everyone.

Golf is a sport where millimeters make a huge difference. One wrong bounce can mean total disaster, and be the deciding factor in whether or not you win or compete, and it’s not uncommon for golfers to be creative and solution-oriented during their rounds.

The Swede’s dream team

It is also what characterizes the very best golfers; the ability to be creative when needed most. Just ask Sebastian Söderberg. The Swede is not the one who gets the most headlines in sports Sweden, but the fact is that he is not far from being in the top 100 in the world in the official world ranking in golf.

On weekdays, Söderberg is on the European Tour, or DP World Tour as it is now called. During his career, there has been a total of one victory on the European Tour, and close to 50 million recorded kroner. And last winter, he made the golf world drop its jaw with a shot that no one saw coming. In the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open competition, Söderberg ended up on the completely wrong side of a bunker, which was placed on the green.

“The smartest thing ever”

It is not common for bunkers to be located in the middle of a green, and this led to some problems for Söderberg. It is not forbidden to use a club on the green, but it is sensitive not to leave marks on the finely cut grass. After some discussion, however, Söderberg stepped up to the ball, and then hit a shot that the European Tour themselves, in a clip uploaded to social media, called “the smartest shot of all time”. The clip can be seen at the bottom of the article.

Söderberg’s ball rolled directly into the hole, and it all ended with him coming third in the competition. It is not the first time that Söderberg has done something noteworthy in the world of golf. A few years ago, he became the fastest player to complete an 18-hole round in European Tour history when he played the final round of the Dubai Dessert Classic – in just 97 minutes.
