The surprise challenger who overcame injuries forced the champion to

Poland’s Iga Swiatek won the fourth tennis grand slam tournament of her career. Final opponent Karolina Muchova played in the final match of a grand slam tournament for the first time.

Polish Iga Swiatek has won the women’s singles championship of the French Open tennis tournament. Swiatek, top of the world list and ranked number one in the tournament, defeated the Czech Republic in the final match Karolina Muchovan 6–2, 5–7, 6–4.

Muchova, 26, who suffered from injuries earlier in her career, was the surprise of the tournament. He played in the final of a grand slam tournament for the first time. The first set went smoothly under the command of Swiatek, who is used to finals, and the match seemed to go easily for the Pole.

The Czech, ranked 43rd in the world, started to heat up in the second set when he broke Swiatek’s serve in two for a 5-4 lead.

Muchova was able to serve for the set win, but Swiatek was able to break and tie the game at 5–5. Next, Muchova cleared Swiatek’s serve turn and fought with her own serve turn to win the set 7–5 with the third set point.

In the third set, the situation changed. First, Muchova took a 2–0 lead, but Swiatek ran alongside and past. However, Muchova did not get discouraged, but took a 4–3 lead. Swiatek won the next two points to come within a point of the championship.

Muchova was no longer able to hold her serve, and Swiatek was able to win the fourth grand slam of her career.

Swiatek won the championship convincingly in the end. Only Muchova was able to win a set against the champion at this year’s Roland Garros tournament.

The 22-year-old Pole is comfortable on mass courts, as the French Open victory was already his third. Swiatek has celebrated victory in 2020 and 2022. In the three tournaments she has won in France, she has lost only one set in addition to a loss to Muchova, in 2022 in the fourth round of China Zheng Qinwen against.

The Pole is the first player since the Belgian to repeat the women’s singles championship at the French Open Justine Henin and the year 2007.

Swiatek has also won the US Open once.
