The Student Council in Stockholm on the deficit: We need the government’s help

Dark times are painted in the city of Stockholm’s forecast for the finances of the city’s schools. For Stockholm’s primary and secondary schools, the deficit points to more than SEK 320 million.

This despite the fact that the red-green majority talked about a big investment in the school in connection with the budget being presented at the end of last year.

– We have removed the efficiency requirement, which corresponds to SEK 200 million. And we have increased school fees by around six percent. But the tough economic situation all over the world also affects us, says Emilia Bjuggren (S), who believes that the government must push more money to the municipalities in the spring amendment budget that will be presented on Monday, April 17.

As far as all of the country’s schools are concerned, the Swedish Teachers’ union believes that twelve billion kroner is missing.

The Liberals: We warned about this

The Liberals’ opposition councilor Jan Jönsson (L) is worried about the development.

– When the budget was presented before Christmas, there was talk of a billion dollar investment in the school, but even then we warned that the money would not be enough anywhere. And now we see that many schools are facing savings, says Jan Jönsson (L).
