The Stockholm Medicus clinic is banned: “Unacceptable shortcomings”

The Stockholm Medicus clinic has offered enlargements of the breasts and buttocks with a liquid filler. Several women have suffered injuries after the treatment when the preparation migrated into the body and caused infections, fistula passages and swelling.

Johanna Stensland, 53, is one of those affected. Her breasts became inflamed and ruptured after the treatment. Johanna Stensland was close to death and was cared for in the intensive care unit.

After Kalla fakta reported that women had been injured, the filler preparation was banned this summer. Despite the ban, there was information that Stockholm Medicus, which also imported the product, continued to offer the treatment.

The activity is prohibited

Now Ivo has made the decision to completely ban the activities at the clinic. They write in the decision that there is a tangible danger to patients’ lives and health. The authority also writes that non-licensed personnel performed interventions and that there is an imminent risk of patients suffering medical injuries.

– We take this very seriously. These are such unacceptable deficiencies that we see a great danger to patients’ lives and health, says Ivo’s unit manager Göran Olsson to TV4.

The decision to ban the activity applies with immediate effect.

Johanna Stensland receives the news with joy.

– The important thing is that they cannot continue their activities precisely to prevent other women or men from becoming as ill as I and the other women have become, were and still are, says Johanna Stensland.

TV4 has sought the owners of the clinic, who have not returned.

Cold facts: Harmless procedure

The preparation is used for breast and butt enlargement and has been injected into hundreds of women despite patients and doctors sounding the alarm about the risks.
