Spotify, which is the leader of the online music market, was on the agenda with a Neil Young-centered topic this week. Canadian composer, songwriter and singer Neil Young recently published an article asking Spotify to remove their music. Behind this was Neil Young’s unwillingness to be on the same platform as podcast celebrity Joe Rogan. Saying, “Spotify has become the home of false / fake information about the life-threatening Covid,” Young criticized the support given to Joe Rogan and some other false Covid information, which drew backlash because many of his statements about the disease were not true. Spotify signed an exclusive podcast deal with Joe Rogan in 2020. Rogan, who made false statements such as “Young and healthy people do not need to be vaccinated against Covid-19” and therefore caused perhaps hundreds of deaths, angered not only Young but also other people.
