He has been rumored back to HV71.
But there will be no game in the SHL for Adam Almquist.
Instead, he looks set to become the seventh Swede to sign for games in the KHL next season.

Yesterday finally came the message from the Swedish ice hockey association. It has been in demand, but yesterday it was announced that all Swedish players who choose to play in the KHL are completely stopped from playing in Tre Kronor.

It was then six players, but now it looks like they will be joined by a seventh in the form of Adam Almquist. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, scores of Swedes have fled the league to play in the SHL, Switzerland or NHL, and many thought Adam Almquist would do the same.

Last season, the defender was successful in the KHL team Dinamo Minsk, where he scored 26 points in 41 games from the defender position. During the winter, he has been rumored to return to the SHL, and especially HV71, where he previously played and won SM gold.

Seventh Swede in the KHL

But now Russian Sport-Express comes with completely different information. According to the site, Almquist should be completely ready for a continuation in the KHL, and then in the team Traktor Chelyabinsk. He will thus be the seventh Swede in the KHL next season, compared to the 39 Swedes who played there last season.

This also means that Adam Almquist, who played with Tre Kronor as recently as last spring, will not be eligible for selection for Sam Hallam in the Swedish national team going forward. Robin Press, Adam Reideborn, Fredrik Claesson, Viktor Svedberg, Jakob Lilja and Johan Mattsson are already ready to play in the Russian league next season.
