Appreciated for its freshness and fragrant taste, the mojito is the summer cocktail par excellence! If it is often revisited, it requires a certain technique to achieve it brilliantly. Ice cream, number of mint leaves, dose of alcohol… Everyone has their little preferences. Ludovic Bretel, double French Mojito champion in 2019 and 2022, gave his tips to Ouest-France for making this very popular alcoholic drink with a touch of originality.
To win his title, the Breton mixologist had chosen to revisit this great classic with ingredients visually close to the traditional recipe to keep the visual so refreshing at first sight of the famous mojito while giving it a zest of originality and modernity. Surprise, an old alcohol that has become trendy again appears there and is presented as one of the secret touches! Here is the recipe:
The revisited recipe for a modern and original mojito
Ludovic Bretel’s mojito recipe replaces the cocktail’s star ingredient, mint, with basil and chartreuse. Follow the recipe step by step:
- Place 3 fresh basil leaves in a tumbler glass
- Pour 4 cl of Cuban rum into a mixing glass
- Add 2 cl of green chartreuse to the mixing glass
- Add 1.5 cl of green apple syrup to the mixture
- Add 1 cl of lime juice to the mixture
- Mix all the ingredients with a spoon
- Transfer the preparation into the glass with the basil
- Add ice cubes and tonic water
- Stir again.
