Japanese women are often envied for their wasp waist and healthy lifestyle. But did you know that they are fond of an astonishing trick that allows them to speed up their metabolism? We reveal it to you here.
When it comes to healthy living and well-being, the Japanese set an example. They take great care of their physical and mental health… and their figure. The founder of the beauty brand Meeth, Sonmi, even reveals that Japanese models have the habit of “boosting their metabolism”. We explain to you what this technique consists of.
Metabolism refers to all of the chemical reactions occurring within cells or more generally within the body. These processes allow cells to nourish themselves, repair themselves and produce energy.
Energy expenditure (the amount of energy the body uses for its vital functions) is a key component of metabolism. And the Japanese know it better than anyone!
Japanese models take advantage of “thermogenesis”, that is to say the production of heat by the body, to boost their metabolism and thus stay in shape.
“Japanese women constantly strive to keep their bodies warm“, confirms Sonmi, founder of the beauty brand Meeth.
“If it’s extremely hot, Japanese women don’t drink drinks with ice, for example”, she explains, before adding: “If your body temperature drops, your metabolism and cell regeneration slows down (…) so we don’t let our bodies cool down, whether inside or outside“.
Concretely, the Japanese carefully avoid body temperature variations. This involves respecting various measures on a daily basis, more or less easy to maintain:
- Practicing “cardio” activities that improve blood circulation and stimulate thermogenesis, such as boxing or running;
- Drink enough water;
- Wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions to maintain a stable body temperature;
- Take a hot bath (40 degrees maximum);
- Consume “warming” foods, such as broth, soup or tea.
High body temperature: what other benefits?
Thermogenesis is not only beneficial for weight. Several studies have demonstrated the benefits of a slightly higher body temperature.
For example, a higher than average body temperature increases blood circulation and stimulates the immune system by promoting the production of white blood cells. Fever also inhibits the growth of certain microorganisms.
Sweating also boosts the elimination of toxins – excess waste in the body that comes from food and pollution. Doing physical exercise or taking a hot bath finally releases endorphins, these pleasure neurotransmitters known for their anti-stress action.
Finally, a higher body temperature would also be associated with a reduced mortality rate according to recent research.
Good reasons to boost your metabolism, like the Japanese!
