The S criticism of the government’s spring budget: “A jumble”

Even if the total investment in this year’s spring budget is a quadruple compared to last year, it is not enough, says Mikael Damberg (S).

Among other things, he wants to see more money for the regions.

Spring budget 2024

  • Fourfold investments in this year’s budget: “Getting closer to the goal”

  • The government presents the spring budget for 2024

  • – When the regions warned of the critical situation in healthcare, the prime minister promised that no one would have to be laid off. Now it becomes painfully clear that Ulf Kristersson and the government are breaking that promise, he said at a press conference on Monday.

    “Side with the banks”

He accused the government of having sided “with the banks” in the economic crisis and of turning a blind eye to the strained financial situation of households.

In addition, he pointed a finger at the government’s handling of the construction crisis.

    – Instead of siding with the Swedish people, the government has presented a strange and unrealistic budget that does not address the real problems, said Damberg.

Ådahl (C): “Only do half the job”

According to Center Party’s economic policy spokesperson Martin Ådahl, there are too few investments to stop the escalating gang crime.

    – The reasonable thing would have been a strong investment in school and jobs for young people. Unfortunately, the government is only doing half the job, so Ådahl called for more investment in the police, defector activities and field assistants.

    Criticism of climate policy

Both the Left Party and the Green Party criticized the government’s climate policy.

    – We need to speed up the transition, we need to strengthen welfare and increase gender equality. We see that the parties in this government are doing the exact opposite, said Janine Alm Ericson (MP).

The Left Party also highlighted rising house prices and falling real wages.

    – The only thing the government has brought to households are tax cuts that go to those who are the best off in society. Half of the population receives ten percent of the job tax deduction that has been made, said Ida Gabrielsson (V).
