Free Guy 2 is coming: The sequel is firmly planned (and more)
The Hollywood Reporter reported a year ago that Free Guy 2 is no longer a problem. 20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell told the industry publication that the blockbuster is definitely coming. “We are currently awaiting the script, which will arrive any day.” He promised one “fantastic story”. In the further course of the conversation there was even talk of several filmsthat are being planned. A Free Guy universe seemed possible. However, the plans have not really got off the ground to this day. Is Ryan Reynolds to blame for this?

In March, Reynolds spoke about the sequel at a festival and didn’t sound too enthusiastic. While he would love to direct the film, he said, he pushed right after: “Does everything have to be a sequel?” His attitude towards the sequel seemed to be rather defensive overall. But we are still talking about the plans.
Reynolds may have other things on his mind right now. Deadpool 3 is in the works and thus the continuation of the most important Reynolds brand. The expectations for the Marvel film are huge: it brings back Hugh Jackman and will connect the old X-Men universe to the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool 3 hits theaters on November 6, 2024.
After that, Reynolds could get interested in Free Guy again. However, Free Guy 2 does not have a release date yet. Don’t expect the film before the summer of 2025.
