The RN takes advantage of farmers anger to collect personal

The National Rally launched a petition in support of farmers on Tuesday. A stratagem bordering on legal which actually allows him to collect email addresses.

“Against Macron’s Europe: support for our farmers!” This is the title of the petition launched on the National Rally website and relayed on social networks by the party on Tuesday January 23. In line with Jordan Bardella’s visit to farmers in Gironde last weekend, the RN continues to campaign on the anger of the rural world, five months before the European elections. But above all, this petition allows him to collect personal data, in defiance of the GDPR, according to BFMTV.

Therefore, the signatories of the petition must provide their last name, first name and email address for their signature to be taken into account. However, no validation request is then sent to them by email. The only use of their address is therefore to be recorded in the RN databases. In addition, they must check a box indicating: “By clicking, I accept that the information recorded is reserved for the exclusive use of the RN”.

“It’s a diversion of purpose”, reports Alexandre Archambault, lawyer specializing in digital law, to BFMTV, “because consenting to communicate one’s data for a petition in no way means consenting to being in the file of a political party”. The European general regulation on digital protection (GDPR) requires that two boxes be offered to users: one to validate the signature and a second to accept or not the processing of their personal data.
