Red Bracelets are back on TF1 from this Monday evening, April 16, for a fifth season of the hospital series, focusing on sick children and teenagers. A season 5 announced as the last. The saga, inspired by the Catalan drama Vermilion polseres, has captivated the French public since its arrival on TF1 in 2018, the first season even reaching heights for this type of program, sometimes approaching 6 million viewers. If the audiences have since fallen (a little more than 3 million viewers for the first episode of season 4 last year, barely 2.2 million for the last), the goal according to its producers remains the same for the season 5: explore on screen the daily challenges and dreams of adolescents facing serious illnesses, while avoiding falling too ostentatiously into pathos.
Season 5 of Red bracelets picks up a month after the death of Benji, the significant final event of the previous season. A tragic death to which the series has unfortunately accustomed us, which left an indelible mark on his friends, which we will find within the Leonardo da Vinci hospital in their own ordeals. The series continues to follow these young protagonists as they juggle their desire for freedom with the realities of their medical conditions.
A traumatic death
Red Bracelets will nevertheless install some new features in the storyline from the first episodes of the 5th season: Gabriel (Noé Wodecki), one of the key characters in the series since last year, finally left the hospital to explore new Horizons. Zoé (Esther Blanc), for her part, has taken the plunge towards Oxford University, where she tries to integrate among her new friends, although she maintains a close bond with César (Maxime Pipet) at through their regular conversations.
In this context which is increasingly going beyond the walls of the hospital, César, encouraged by Zoé, will agree to follow an experimental treatment which is beginning to show signs of success. He now shares his hospital room with Nathan (Noah Deric), who is still awaiting treatment for a brain tumor, while battling worrying new symptoms…
Benji (Léo Lorléac’c), despite his tragic death in season 4, will continue to weigh on the series and on the troubles of Emma (Kali Boisson) in particular, who is back in the hospital due to a hematoma in the stomach. She will have difficulty overcoming the loss of her first love and will continue to see Benji during visions, between hallucinations and projections from her unconscious.
New characters and a return
Season 5 of Red bracelets also introduces new characters, including Prudence (played by Chaili Souffir), a rebellious teenager who arrives at the hospital after a dangerous fall from the roof of her high school. She will share a room with Emma. The arrival of this daredevil who bears her name rather poorly, as well as the presence of a physiotherapist well known to viewers, Mehdi Kamissoko (Azize Diabate Abdoulaye), who will take charge of her rehabilitation, promise new dynamics between the characters. . The return of this former hospital patient, central character of the first three seasons, is undoubtedly one of the events of this fifth part.
