the reasons for the delay in the proclamation of the results of the legislative elections

numerous reactions from the Congolese political class as the vote

The results of the national and provincial legislative elections are eagerly awaited in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The independent national electoral commission (Céni) was due to publish them a week ago, on January 3, but had to postpone the deadline to a later date. The 15 members of the plenary of the electoral center have been holding intense plenary elections since the holding. In the corridors, this delay is explained by several factors.

The Ceni initially fell behind schedule due to long compilations of results. Because for legislative and municipal elections, she wants to take the ballots into account. This operation closed five days ago, according to internal sources, the electoral center looked into cases of fraud, corruption and ballot stuffing.

Eighty-two candidates had their votes invalidated and polls canceled in two towns, Yakoma and Masimanimba. This is what has delayed the publication of the results in recent days. Because the Ceni must study other reported cases of fraud with the possibility of extending the list. It must also examine the voluntary appeals lodged by the majority of 82 candidates.

Some have referred the matter to the Council of State, which took the matter under advisement on Wednesday and is expected to render its decision on Friday.

Even if lawyers believe that these appeals currently constitute the major blockage to the publication of the results, Céni officials still believe that they can publish the results by constituency. “ Let’s start where we haven’t detected any shenanigans and incidents “.

Officially, the executive secretariat of the Ceni, the technical body, transmitted to its president the list of political parties and groups having reached the threshold of 1% of the votes cast. Only parties having obtained 1% will be able to sit in the National Assembly.
