The police’s tip: How to identify fraudsters who pretend to be police officers

Fraudsters posing as police officers are not a new phenomenon. Most often, it is the elderly who are affected and who are visited by these fake police officers.

As recently as May, 13 people were charged after defrauding the elderly in Malmö. Via telephone calls and home visits, they conned bank card details, cash and valuables.

There are also clips circulating on social media of people in uniform, who appear to be police officers, doing their job remarkably poorly.

Tipping a box of apples over the perpetrator

Recently, one clip in particular has been widely circulated. There you can see what looks like two police officers acting aggressively towards an arrested perpetrator.

The person is broken down and at first glance it may look like several blows are dealt before a large box of apples is tipped over the perpetrator.

Filip Pelas has seen the clip and sees several signs why these are not real police.

“This some sketch or similar”

– The first thing I saw was that the baton was very short, it should be able to be folded out so that it is longer. Those pretending to be police repeatedly hit the ground and next to this perpetrator. You can also see that the other pretend policeman pours apples on the person and then I understood that this is some sketch or similar, says Pelas and continues:

– I also see that some equipment is missing. A fully uniformed police officer always has a radio, there should also be a service weapon, a baton, an OC spray. You can always look to see if the police have the equipment they should have.
