Just days after the stabbing in Southport, the police released the identity of the perpetrator – because speculation had fueled the riots that followed the attack. And when more information about the perpetrator came to light, a question was raised.
– Many wonder how he could not be stopped before he carried out the act, because he was known to the police, social services and anti-terrorist authorities, says foreign reporter Anna-Maja Persson.
Starmer appoints investigation
The issue has prompted UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to appoint a public inquiry.
– Partly they want to investigate what went wrong, and partly to prevent something similar from happening again, says Anna-Maja Persson.
In the video, SVT’s foreign reporter tells more about the information that has come to light about the perpetrator and his upbringing.
