According to the company, which admitted the hack, a hacker took over the account of one of its developers and used this means to access sensitive data.
LastPass does not store password protection
” We have determined that an unauthorized element gained access to portions of the LastPass development environment through a single compromised developer account and took portions of the source code and certain proprietary technical information from LastPass.”, CEO Karim Toubba said in a statement. According to him, customer data was not stolen: ” After launching an investigation afterwards, we have seen no evidence that this incident involved access to customer data or encrypted password vaults.”
It should also be remembered that the password used to lock LastPass is not known to the publisher, nor stored on their servers.
