A gamer gives his RTX 3080 for repair – the manufacturer sends him 3 broken graphics cards as replacements

A gamer complained about his defective Nvidia RTX 3080 to Asus. As a replacement, the manufacturer sent him three graphics cards one after the other, all of which had defects. His odyssey only ends with the 4th exchange card.

The warranty processing for defective hardware can sometimes take a very long time. The affected component is sent in or handed over to the dealer on site.

The manufacturer then carries out an inspection, which usually ends with a repair or replacement and hopefully does not cause any follow-up costs despite the guarantee.

A gamer who reported his service case on Reddit followed this path with his RTX 3080 from Asus. However, the manufacturer’s support team needed several attempts and 4 graphics cards before the problem was finally solved.

Gamer gets 3 broken graphics cards as replacements

What happened when the complaint was made? On Reddit, the gamer fedlol reports on the service issue he had to experience with his Nvidia RTX 3080 from Asus. The graphics card sporadically did not output an image. Therefore, fedlol sent the card to the manufacturer in September 2023 for a warranty repair.

The RTX 3080 was returned unrepaired because there was supposedly no error. However, according to the gamer, the graphics card now had 2 huge scratches on the bottom.

It took a month for the gamer to convince support to re-examine the card thanks to his persistence. Fortunately, there were no unnecessary additional costs, as was the case with another user when he visited a PC repair shop.

When I originally RMAed my GPU (it sporadically gave a black screen), they told me there was nothing wrong with it after testing it and sent it back to me with two huge scratches on the backplate. I should have charged them for the scratches.

It took me a month to get her to test it a second time. Then they came to the conclusion that it stopped working, […]

How did the case continue? When fedlol received another RTX 3080 as an exchange from Asus support, he noticed that it was not packaged very securely and was therefore bent.

For this reason, he complained about this replacement card, which at least corresponded to the original variant and not, as in the case of another gamer, the graphics card was replaced with a cheaper model.

He then received two more graphics cards, which also had defects. Due to visible curvatures on the boards, backs, fan covers and slot covers on the connectors, he also sent these two cards back to Asus without being tested.

They sent a bent copy, I sent it back, they sent another, I sent it back again, etc. There was no refund. If anything, it cost me gas money to have to drive to the post office so often.

And I don’t think they worked. I didn’t bother trying it, but every time they sent me a replacement card there was a note saying the last card had failed the test and was being replaced.

After a long 3 months and a total of 3 broken replacement graphics cards, the gamer is said to have finally received a working RTX 3080 in December 2023. Unfortunately, the gamer doesn’t tell us whether it was because this card was better packaged than the previous ones.

Not every problem with a graphics card requires this much time and effort to solve. A gamer who initially had difficulties with his new graphics card and was able to solve them quickly with a little help found out that it could be much easier: Player builds a gaming PC that costs 1,800 euros and only has a meager 6 FPS in games – but the solution is conceivable simply
