The mass shooting in Thailand – here the 14-year-old is arrested

One person has died and several have been injured after a shooting at the Siam Paragon mall in central Bangkok, reports BBC.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the scene, suspected of the crime. His motive is still unclear.

Information about an active shooting in the mall, which is considered to be of the more luxurious kind, quickly began to circulate on social media. Footage has also been shared from inside the shopping center where loud bangs are heard.

The Prime Minister in place

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin rushed to the scene and assured reporters that the situation was under control.

– Police clear up the area. The situation is calmer, he said.

Previously, three deaths were reported, but the rescue service has now revised the number down.

Mass shootings are uncommon in Thailand, although gun ownership is relatively high for the region.
