Sometimes it’s like this: there are bottles in the sea that reach our shore. The letter from our guest is one of them. A direct letter, cash, and which shines the eyes on a somewhat forgotten corner of the world, in these Ukrainian times.
This is what the letter says: I am a doctoral student at Inalco, originally from Afrin, but born in Aleppo. I am Kurdish from Syria. Witness to the war that started in my country in 2011. Our life was devastated, our family displaced several times, our area having been occupied by Turkey, then by jihadist factions in 2018. My library which contained hundreds of books in several languages was burned after the Turkish invasionetc… By putting down this letter, I wished to meet this young woman, Gulistan Sidowhich has undoubtedly lost everything, but preserving a treasure: Kurdish literature for which it is fighting today, thanks to the PAUSE program which makes it possible to support in France the reception of foreign researchers, in danger in their country.
