the iron curtain, “it is almost already down”

the iron curtain it is almost already down

A new “iron curtain” is being erected between the West and Russia. This was estimated by the head of Russian diplomacy this Thursday, June 30, during a press conference in Minsk, after a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart. A strong statement after the enlargement of NATO, both territorial and human, decided in Madrid.

With our correspondent in Moscow, Jean-Didier Revoin

Moscow has no intention of allowing itself to be impressed by the unprecedented development of the Atlantic Alliance decided in Madrid. This is what we can deduce from the remarks made by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov.

We will no longer believe the Americans or the European Union. We are already doing everything necessary not to depend on them in sectors that are critical for the life of the State, for our population and our security.

This does not mean that Moscow is preparing to cut ties with the West. But now, Russia will examine its possible proposals on a case-by-case basis, based on the criterion of balancing the interests of all parties.

A situation which is not likely to slow down the current escalation and which pushes Sergei Lavrov to make a remarkable analogy with the period of the cold war.

Regarding the Iron Curtain, I agree with my Belarusian counterpart, it is almost already down. Provided that Western countries behave carefully so that they do not corner us, but this process has begun.

A position that is in line with that of Vladimir Putin. The Russian president indeed considers that this mobilization around Ukraine is only a means for the Americans to strengthen their leadership, their hegemony, and by extension, their imperialist ambitions.
