The Ica Maxi store is forced to throw away all refrigerated goods

It was during the night to Monday that all the coolers at Ica Maxi in Enköping suddenly shut down.

– What has happened is that during the night a pipe has broken in our Co2 plant, i.e. all the cooling media, says the store manager Fredrik Knutson to P4 Uppland.

The ICA store closes early – so the staff can party: “The whole heap”

The Ica Maxi manager: “The cold chain is broken”

The breakdown means that all goods stored in the refrigerators must now be thrown away. Fredrik Knutson explains:

– With the rules that exist in environment and health as well as food legislation, we are not allowed to sell goods cheaper when the cold chain is broken. Unfortunately, we are also not allowed to give them away.

And being forced to throw away all refrigerated goods is a costly story.

– We have insurance, of course, like everyone else. But I would guess at just over two million kroner, says Knutson P4 Uppland about the value of the goods that now end up in the bin.

Food prices continue to rise – here is the chain that raised the most
