The horses’ New Year’s panic in the stable: Shaking and running around

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Michelle Berghäll and the rest of the grooms at the farm in Önnestad outside Kristianstad had prepared as much as possible for New Year’s Eve.

They brought the horses into the stables extra early, turned on the radio and stuffed cotton in the animals’ ears.

But the longer the evening wore on, the more nervous the horses became, and around twelve o’clock there was panic in the stables when rockets and firecrackers heralded the start of the new year.

– They ran around the boxes and were extremely stressed by what they saw and what they heard, says Michelle.

The pregnant mare Cornetta was stressed to death on New Year’s Eve, but all the horses on the farm in Önnestad survived.

Michelle Berghäll now wants fireworks to be banned because they harm the animals so much.

– I don’t think it’s worth it. It causes so much damage to both animals and people, she says.
