Börje’s puck
At home in Sweden, a couple from Gävle have also been recognized for their fine gesture to help Börje Salming and other ALS sufferers. It is the pastry shop Lido in Gävle that wants to help and collect money for the research.
Börje Salming played for the city’s hockey pride Brynäs in the 70s and will forever be seen as a hero after winning SM gold with the club. The confectioners Jesper Schenkel and Cathrine Pihlajinen has created the “Börjes puck” pastry, where every piece sold contributes to money raised for ALS sufferers.

“Fantastic”
The patisserie was recently noticed in the TV4 program “Efter Fem”, where one of the presenters praises the nice gesture as a “fantastic initiative”.
– Unfortunately, we heard about the announcement and then it was my colleague Jesper who immediately thought that we should make some pastry to draw attention to this. Börje is truly an icon and legend in hockey. We wanted to do something and donate part of the sales, says pastry chef Cathrine Pihlajinen to the program.

There and then, the pastry Börjes puck was created, which also has two neat words at the top of the pastry in the form of Salming’s nickname “The King”, see the feature below.
– We came to the conclusion that it should be a puck, because it is hockey. We also thought that the flavors should be classic, because Börje is a classic. It was mint chocolate and mazarin base, which are classic flavors. Many people like it and we hope that as many people as possible want to buy the pastry so that we can donate a lot of money, Cathrine tells TV4.
– It sells very well and our message about it has gotten out. We had made 150 and they have already sold out.
