The Gathering was supposed to be $100,000, it’s already worth $1M – that’s what makes it so valuable

Even after 30 years, TCG Magic: The Gathering still comes up with something special to stimulate the fans’ passion for collecting. A special card is only printed once and collectors spare no expense or effort to secure “your treasure”.

What’s the deal with the card? On June 23, 2023, the highly anticipated Magic: The Gathering and The Lord of the Rings crossover will be released. In addition to well-known characters from Middle-earth, the edition also included a very special treasure:

The “The 1 of 1 Ring” is a card that is only printed once and is therefore truly unique. Collectors’ hearts are already beating faster given the borderless illustration, which really comes into its own in foil printing – and above all because of the serial number 001 of 001.

Noted collector Dan Brock has already put a $100,000 bounty on the card’s head. However, he clarified that this was just an “entry price” meant to get people talking.

$1 million for The One Card

This is the current price development: The unique card hasn’t even been released yet, but collectors are already outdoing each other. Football player Cassius Marsh just upped his offer from $150,000 to half a million, but has already been outbid (via Twitter).

Dave & Adam’s, a company that has been dealing in trading cards, comics and autographed memorabilia for 30 years, has now placed a $1 million bounty on the card.

The offer is only valid until July 17th, so the card must be found by then.

Conveniently, Dave & Adams also sells the matching booster boxes in which the precious card can be found – at a pre-order price of $424.95, the equivalent of almost €395. With 12 packs per box, that makes almost 33 euros per booster.

While this price is significantly higher than you would normally pay for basic boosters, it’s not uncommon for special editions.

This is a win-win situation for Dave & Adam’s, because they make money from the boxes sold and may not have to pay the bounty at all – for example if the lucky finder does not want to sell at all, only gets in touch after July 17th or until then there is simply a better offer.

Card shop boasts an unusual offer

Are there any other offers? Indeed there are. LOTR fans who care less about the money and more about the flavor might also enjoy Moxie Card Shop’s Bounty.

Because they offer to meet up for a cozy campfire with costumes and snacks and let the menu go up in flames together – as it should be.
