The Finnish men’s national football team has a very important EC qualifying match against Slovenia ahead of them on Saturday. The result can already define to a large extent Finland’s chances for the European Championships in Germany.

The 25-year-old was selected for Finland’s goalkeeper trio, somewhat surprisingly Hugo Ketowhen Jesse Joronen was injured. Lukas Hradecky has been Finland’s number one goalkeeper for a long time and is now number two Viljami Sinisalo.

– It came as a bit of a surprise. I didn’t know about Jorone’s injury until Antti (Peninsula) called and told me that he chose me to replace me, Keto told the Finnish team’s remote info.

Keto has been part of the national team group in winter international matches in 2018, but he has no played A national matches.

– It was easy to join the team. Almost half of the group are acquaintances. The goalkeepers are really good guys, we have a good, relaxed atmosphere, but work is done properly.

Keto knows his role as a triple goalkeeper.

– I’m not really looking forward to playing. I’ll do my best to make sure “Luke” is ready for the games and try to keep the mood up.

At the club team level, Keto plays in Sandefjord in Norway. The team is second last in the series. Relegation would make Kedo think about his future.

– It would not be the most ideal situation to continue at the second highest league level. Let’s hope that everything goes well and that we stay in the series. If you don’t stay, you have to talk to the agents about the situation.

Keto left Finland at a young age, when he moved to Arsenal’s academy in London in the summer of 2014. In the years 2018–2020, Keto was part of the Brighton organization in England before returning to Finland for a couple of years, in the ranks of HJK.

“The game will be difficult”

Huuhkaji’s goalkeeper coach Antti Niemi is happy to see Kedo in Huuhkaji.

– His role is quite clear. Our goalkeeper situation has been quite constant in recent years. When Jesse was injured, it was a question of who has game experience underneath. Hugo was a natural choice. He has played big minutes in a good series.

– Nice to see him after a long time. I remember Hugo more from his younger years, he has developed a lot.

Niemi knows that the Slovenia match is important, but does not want to overemphasize the importance of the game.

– This has become an important game. However, I wouldn’t call this a decisive game, there are quite a few points still to be shared here. The final program in Slovenia is not easy. Of course, it would help a lot if we could get points from this match.

Niemi emphasizes that the game will be difficult.

– Slovenia is a good team, especially their counter-attacking is really good. Goalkeeper (Atletico Madrid Jan Oblak) is one of the best and most stylish goalkeepers of the last 10-15 years.
