Tuomas Iisalo and his brother Joonas have brought a coaching philosophy to Baskets Bonn.
Coaching basketball in the German Bundesliga Tuomas Iisalo has been overwhelmingly voted coach of the year. Coaches, sports directors and captains of Bundesliga teams, as well as media representatives, were allowed to vote for the coach of the year. Iisalo received as many as 64.4 percent of the vote.
– I think this is a common tribute. Because it affects a team that has outdone itself, Iisalo commented on the club’s Facebook page.
Tuomas Iisalo moved in with his brother Joonas Iisalon with this season Baskets Bonn. The duo performed wonders last season as they led the series at the tail end of a generally lodging and on a small budget operated Crailsheim Merlins all the way to the playoffs.
The 39-year-old touch of Finnish coach Midas has also worked in Bonn, as under his direction Baskets Bonn is playing his best ever in the Bundesliga.
Before the Iisalo brothers arrived in Bonn, the team had two weaker seasons behind them. Now the team leads the league with 25 wins. Behind are the Euroleague clubs Bayern Munich and Alba Berlin, which have dominated the German league in recent years.
– We set out to bring a way of playing that all the club’s employees, fans and team members can be proud of. The reforms have been well received. The players quickly realized that everyone would win if the common goals were committed and the team did well, Iisalo said in an interview with Sport in December.
