The father is appealing the life sentence after the double murder in Södertälje

The man admitted early in the trial that he suffocated the boy and girl to death with gas. According to the district court verdict, he must have killed the two children with intent and in a particularly reckless manner.

Now the 37-year-old has submitted an appeal to the Court of Appeal where he requests that the Court of Appeal change the penalty – so that he is instead handed over to forensic psychiatric care.

According to previous investigations, however, the man should not have suffered from any serious mental disorder at the time of the murders. He has also previously claimed through his defender that the murders were not planned – and for personal reasons opposed deportation.

In the appeal, the man’s defense lawyer Mikael Westerlund writes that “in any case, mitigation of punishment is requested”.
