The explosion in Farsta: Great devastation and anger

The alarm came at 21.34 on Tuesday evening to the police. Another explosion had occurred. This time it had exploded in a stairwell in Farsta south of Stockholm.

Police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl believes that it is “a miracle” that no one was injured.

TV4 Nyheterna has spoken to several residents of the house who describe the explosion as tumultuous.

– I sit on the sofa and watch TV in peace and quiet. I think I hear a lot of running in the stairwell, more than usual. So much so that I react to it. Ten to 20 seconds later, it’s the biggest bang I’ve heard in my life, says a man who lives in one of the apartments.

Want to move from Farsta after the explosion

He says that he tried to keep calm and wait for the police and emergency services.

– I notice that my door is pushed in so much that I can’t open it at all. While there is lots of smoke in the stairwell and children screaming. Complete chaos simply, he says.

When TV4 Nyheterna talks to him the morning after, he is still shaken after the incident and only got half an hour’s sleep.

– I’m probably still in shock, I think. It was a lot of work to get the cat out of the apartment and find somewhere to go. Luckily I have a relative nearby I could go to. It’s damn unpleasant. You have no great desire to stay. But apartments don’t grow on trees, he says.

Thomas in shock: “Luckily the children weren’t at home”

Thomas was sitting in his kitchen around 9:30 p.m. He had brushed his teeth and put on his pajamas and was about to go to bed. Then it narrowed – properly.

– I heard something in the stairwell and immediately after that an explosion that was felt right above me. It felt like the head was shaking. I understood immediately that it was a bomb. You are afraid and worried, now it has happened here, he says.

Thomas heard, like several others, that there was activity in the stairwell and that it was as if someone was running up and down.

– Somehow I am not surprised and I am angry that it has happened here. At the same time happy that my children were not at home with me, he says.

After the explosion, Thomas was one of those who had to leave his apartment. But problems arose.

– I have diabetes and had low blood sugar and thought that I needed to get some sugar. Then I went out with an apple in my hand, but didn’t bring my insulin dose with me. So I’m not getting the insulin I need. It worries me now because I can’t go in and collect my insulin dose from the apartment, he says.
