The European Commission proposes a European certificate of functional impairment

Both cards will be recognized throughout the EU and make it easier for people with disabilities to travel throughout the EU. The certificate will give cardholders equal access to special conditions and preferential treatment anywhere in the EU, according to the European Commission’s website.

May be about free entry

The special conditions apply when the holder of the certificate uses public transport, participates in cultural events and visits museums, leisure and sports facilities, amusement parks and more. This may include free entry, reduced tariffs and priority access.

Legal act within 2.5 years

This will now be negotiated by the Council and the European Parliament, and a piece of legislation will be passed requiring EU governments to implement the cards for their citizens within 2.5 years.

EUD was present at the press conference

The EUD was present at the press event organized by the European Disability Forum (EDF) on the new European certificate. The event took place on September 6, when the commission announced the proposal for the card. EUD writes on the website that they welcome the European Commission’s proposal.
