The EU chief: Russia is cracking

This weekend’s Russian insurgent march by the private army leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and his soldiers is a given main topic when the foreign ministers of the EU countries gather today.

Even though both causes and consequences are still very unclear, the development of events raises concerns.

— It is now more important than ever before to continue supporting Ukraine. What happened over the weekend shows that the war against Ukraine is causing the Russian power to crack and has consequences for its political system, says Foreign Minister Borrell on his way into the meeting.

And he points out the risks with concern.

— It is of course not a good thing to see that a nuclear power like Russia risks ending up in a phase of political instability. It is also something that must be taken into account, says Borrell – and at the same time states that the rulers in Moscow have themselves to blame.

— The monster that Putin created in Wagner is now biting him. The monster acts against its creator, says Borrell.
