The drama at Old Trafford: Onana cheated Larsson’s penalty

Scott McTominay caused the penalty with a dangerous kick deep into added time. After a VAR check, the decision stood and the substitute Larsson stepped forward with the chance to equalize with the last kick of the match.

But Onana read the penalty and managed to push the ball away and save the victory for a hard-pressed club.

The consequence: With three games remaining, United are a point behind second-placed Galatasaray in Group A, which is led by Bayern Munich. FCK is sitting on one point.

Minute of silence

The meeting was preceded by a minute’s silence in honor of United legend Bobby Charlton, who died on Saturday aged 86.

Charlton scored 249 goals in 758 games for the club.

Copenhagen team captain Viktor Claesson was the only Swedish player on the pitch from the start. Victor Nilsson Lindelöf started on the bench for United but came on in the second half, as a left back.

Jordan Larsson (into the 85th minute) and Roony Bardghji were both substitutes for FCK.

United’s much-anticipated and necessary victory was secured by centre-back Harry Maguire, so often criticized and mocked. Maguire headed in the winning goal with 20 minutes remaining.

Manager Erik ten Hag, former teammate Alex Stepney and youth player Dan Gore honor the late Bobby Charlton.

For a football lover, regardless of club sympathies, it was close to being considered an angelic goal with three players involved – centre-back Gabriel and strikers Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli – as Arsenal took the lead in Sevilla.

Gabriel’s clearing kick from his own penalty area was brought down to the feet of Jesus, who quickly turned away two opponents.

Jesus delivers

In depth, Martinelli ran, got the ball in step and finished the run from the center line by rounding Örjan Nyland and rolling the ball in.

Jesus was not ready for the evening. At the start of the second half, he elegantly slotted home 2-0 and netted for the third group stage match in a row.

Sevilla got in touch via Nemanja Gudelj’s header reduction and were extremely close to 2-2 but Mariano Diaz hit the crossbar.

In the second match of Group B, Lens and PSV Eindhoven played 1–1. Arsenal lead the group ahead of Lens.

Real Madrid is steaming towards the round of 16. Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham scored the goals in the 2-1 win away to Braga. Real is in full pot halfway into the group stage.

National team midfielder Jens Cajuste started for Napoli away to Union Berlin but was substituted at half-time. The reigning Italian champions won 1–0 and are shadowing Real in Group C

Even Real Sociedad has acquired a favorable position. 1-0 away to Benfica means Sociedad are on seven points in Group D, the same as Inter.
