The Division 2 is surprisingly tough against exploits – player complains: “Big mistake by Ubisoft”

An exploit was discovered in the loot shooter The Division 2 that unfairly gave players experience points. Ubisoft does not understand the fun of the topic and pronounces harsh penalties. Players don’t like that.

What was that exploit?

  • As a player, you could join an agent who was already on the road in the PvE mode Descent, and in this way get free XP and SHD levels with practically no effort. Ubisoft felt that was unfair
  • As reported by a Polish MMORPG site, relatively few people were aware of the existence of this bug, but some are exploiting the exploit to the full.
  • There is a YouTube video from 6/20/2023 that explains the game bug to generate attention for it. “Only” about 4,640 people saw the video.

How does Ubisoft deal with the exploit? Ubisoft is surprisingly tough on the exploit. It explains that people have “cheated unfair amounts of XP and SHD levels” by doing so. They take it very seriously to offer a fair gaming environment and have identified people who have systematically exploited the exploit:

  • Anyone using such an exploit for the first time will receive a 2-week ban from Division
  • In addition, your accounts will be flagged and further offenses will lead to an extension of the ban
  • Anyone who has failed several times because of something like this will lose their account permanently
  • In addition, the experience gained in this way will be reset, which affects every player who has been identified. Ubisoft wants to give everyone the same opportunities. In order to implement the EXP reduction, a server down and maintenance was done on the morning of July 6th.

How are the reactions? The reactions are negative on Twitter:

  • A user says: He didn’t make the exploit, but sees Ubisoft’s behavior as a big mistake. Because it takes way too long at level 1000.
  • Another user says: Ubisoft is extremely quick when it comes to fixing an XP bug, but when it comes to fixing broken things, they take their time.
  • A third user says Ubisoft is the only company that penalizes players for exploiting a bug they had in their game that they overlooked.
  • Apparently you can’t please people. In many games, using such exploits goes unheeded, which annoys people who didn’t take advantage of the glitch and then felt like the honest man is the stupid one. But if a developer takes action like Ubisoft, it’s not right either.
