The difficulty of schooling for unaccompanied minors

The fight against the tiger mosquito in France

France has just under 25,000 unaccompanied minors on its soil. Foreign children and adolescents who do not have a legal representative, who often immigrated without their parent. In a recent report, Unicef, the United Nations children’s fund, points the finger at the country: numerous obstacles hinder the schooling of these young people, while the right to education is guaranteed by the International Convention on rights of the child. This represents 500 to 3,000 hours of lessons lost per young person, due to administrative and financial obstacles.

On average, the schooling process for unaccompanied minors takes 9 to 10 months. (Illustrative image)
