A prerequisite for peace in the Indo-Pacific is how the denuclearization of North Korea is described by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. The country has just experienced a particularly tense month of October with its neighbor where numerous shootings were observed on both sides of the border.

Dialogue option always possible

According to Seoul, if Kim Jong-un were to fire an intercontinental missile again or even carry out an atomic test, the response should be firm. Yoon Suk-yeol, however, recalled that the option of dialogue is still possible and indicated ” want to offer all necessary assistance for the denuclearization of North Korea “.

Common solution

Earlier in the week, and still at the ASEAN meeting, the South Korean president also held talks with Chinese officials. He expressed his concerns and called for a return to cooperation between Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo against Pyongyang. Li Keqiang, Chinese Premier, responded to the call by saying that China was playing a role ” constructive on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. On the other hand, Seoul also intends to agree with the United States, invited to the meeting, on a possible common solution.
