800 tracked wagons of type 206 and 208 are to have their lives extended by replacing the engine and gearbox, according to a press release from the Defense Materiel Administration (FMV).

The project aims to extend the service life by 15 years and at the same time switch to diesel for the entire railcar system. The value of the contract amounts to approximately SEK 820 million.

Since its premiere in 1974, the armed forces have used 4,500 copies of the 206 and 208 tracked vehicles. It is available in several different variants and completely lacks armour, but in return is a ton lighter than the modern equivalent, the 309 tracked vehicle.
