The darkest Transformers mystery hasnt been talked about in 4

When the first Transformers movie hit theaters in 2007, one character was clearly identified as the protagonist: Sam Witwicky. When the boy, played by Shia LaBeouf, buys his first car, he realizes it’s a giant alien robot. LaBeouf then returned for two more films.

In both Transformers 2: Revenge of the Dead and Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon, LaBeouf leads the fight between the Autobots and Decepticons. We don’t know what became of his character after that. But wait a minute! In a inconspicuous scene in Transformers 5: The Last Knight there is a hint.

In the fifth Transformers film, Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins) tells Oxford professor Vivian Wembley (Laura Haddock) that she is the last living descendant of the Witwicky line is a direct descendant of Merlin (Stanley Tucci). As proof, he pulls out a family tree that breaks down the history of the Witwickys.

Sam is apparently dead in the Transformers series

At the end we see a picture of Sam Witwicky, which is left uncommented. But if we revisit Burton’s words, hiding between the lines is an extremely grim revelation: Sam Witwicky is dead. Otherwise Vivian would not be the last living descendant of Merlin and the Witwicky family.

It’s almost admirable how casually Transformers 5 conveys this information when other franchises go to great lengths to break down every little canon event in detail. Sam Witwicky hasn’t appeared in four films and this is the only moment clearing his fate.
